I’ve been thinking about this text a lot lately. As a millennial man, I have not been exempt from the desire to create content that goes viral or pursue a “side hustle” that balloons into a seven-figure adventure. I even bought a whole podcasting kit that has sat in a box for a solid year. Not that starting a podcast was necessarily a bad idea—in fact, I recently unboxed my gear and have been working on a content schedule. But these verses have encouraged and challenged me to consider my motives—not just for the podcast, but for life in general.

I recently saw a meme which attempted to capture the millennial struggle of being torn between creating viral content and being completely non-existent to the outside world. In some ways, it resonated with me. And yet, there is a way to work with my hands—creating content, perhaps—that can be done in a way that is compatible with “living quietly.”

I’ve never been a “word of the year” kind of guy, but I would love to look back over 2024 and say that I aspired to live quietly, leading a “quiet and peaceful life” (1 Timothy 2:2).

As we prepare to make a life-changing move to a new place where we have no friends or family, it’s easy for one’s mind to wander into all sorts of worry. There is great peace and comfort in knowing that as we continue to seek God’s glory in our lives, we can expect and even rest assured he will direct our steps by his Spirit and grace. Praise him!

Each new year brings new changes, but some are bigger than others. In the coming days, I will share a blog post on my website, but for now, a quick update:

Last month, I accepted a job offer to join the wonderful team at Banner of Truth in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. We are saddened to bid farewell to our beloved home state of Michigan. We have made lifelong friends here. Our church family has been an incredible blessing and gracious gift of God to our family. My years at Hosanna Revival have been rich and fulfilling. Though we are sad to be closing this chapter of life, we are excited for what lies ahead, trusting our gracious and sovereign Lord to establish our steps.

There are times when this “wisdom from above”

There are times when this “wisdom from above” feels so out of reach. We so naturally and quickly default to leaning upon our own understanding. Yet, James reminds us in James 1:5 that if we lack wisdom (which is far more often than we like to admit), the pure wisdom of God is not at all out of reach. We simply need to ask for it—God pours it out generously.

The crown of life cannot be achieved through living in earthly wisdom. God’s wisdom produces a harvest of righteousness—a steadfastness that, when it has its full effect, makes us perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
